  1. When I was growing up, we never drained fat into the sink. My dad said it would clog the pipes. Now that I'm old and gray, I continue to drain the fat into a container. Often when the fat congeals, there are gelatinized meat juices at the bottom. I add these drippings to my cooking. I save my bacon fat to fry potatoes. Thanks for this tourtiere recipe; my mouth is watering!

  2. Wow lots of rude people commenting on the pronunciation. who cares. I make my meat pie a little dif by using half gr beef and half gr pork , the spices are salt and pepper, thyme, sage, rosemary and parsley. I leave some of the fat and thicken with flour. No maple syrup on it, that's new to me…by the way, I'm Canadian… Everyone's tourtiere (meat pie) Is suited to themselves. Enjoy. Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel..

  3. You've taken the time to research where it's made Quebec, Canada (The Best)
Take the time and do it justice. Pronounce it properly Tourtiere (tort-yayer).
It's like foyer is not (foy -yur)( it's foy yah) These are French words, pronounce them properly.

  4. We had this every Christmas Eve in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. I've introduced my Southern husband to it and we began making it last year. It's amazing how many variations there are on Tourtière. We don't use Savory but instead use thyme.

  5. My great grandfather was from Quebec and moved to South Bridge, Massachusetts and we would have it for New Years every year growing up. My grandma had a very similar recipe except she used Bell's Seasoning which had the clove, savory, allspice all in it and instead of using water she used the water from the boiled potatoes which has the starch in it and the last time was she used ground beef and sausage. Thanks for the video brings back a lot of great memories.
